Introduction

Gum health is essential for overall well-being, impacting immune function, systemic health, and quality of life. A balanced oral ecosystem, where beneficial bacteria thrive and harmful microorganisms are controlled, is crucial for long term oral health. Disruptions, known as microbial dysbiosis, contribute to gum disease, chronic inflammation, and systemic health risks.

Among the various motile anaerobic oral bacteria, oral spirochetes, particularly Treponema denticola, play a critical role in the progression of periodontal disease. This anaerobic bacterium is often present alongside other pathogenic species and contributes to periodontal tissue destruction, tooth loss, and immune evasion, thereby increasing the risk of systemic conditions such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and neurodegenerative disorders. Therefore, the reduction of over growth of motile anaerobic oral bacteria, especially oral spirochetes, represents a logical approach to gum health management.

GHG Therapy™ is founded on a holistic, evidence based approach to gum care that integrates modern dental science with the healing properties of herbal medicine. It places special emphasis on reducing the growth of motile anaerobic oral bacteria, particularly spirochetes, within the oral environment. Developed by Dr. Sushil Koirala, drawing on over 30 years of expertise in Vedic Smile - Do No Harm Dentistry, the therapy promotes patient awareness, behavioral modification, and the mindful practice of the Clean, Rinse, and Massage (CRM) protocol at both personal and non-surgical intervention level of professional care.

Unlike conventional treatments that often rely on harsh chemicals or invasive procedures, GHG Therapy™ combines scientifically validated dental techniques with the use of natural herbs and traditional kitchen spices that are long valued in Ayurvedic medicine for their well-documented anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, and tissue healing properties. This unique synergy empowers patients to actively participate in their oral health journey while restoring and maintaining a healthy microbial balance within the oral ecosystem.

GHG TherapyTM The 3 Step Approach

GHG Therapy™ is a structured 30-day program designed to promote healthy gums and fresh breath by targeting the overgrowth of pathogenic oral bacteria, particularly Treponema denticola (oral spirochetes) and other highly motile anaerobic species, while restoring microbial balance within the periodontal ecosystem. This comprehensive therapy integrates scientific diagnostics, patient education, behavioral motivation, and the mindful Clean–Rinse–Massage (CRM) protocol, delivered at both personal and non-surgical intervention level of professional care.

The therapy is organized through systematic and dual-level care model comprising of 3 three essential steps:

DOCUMENT
Periodontal Health Status

INTRAORAL PHOTOGRAPHY

Capturing high-quality images to document the condition of the oral cavity and gums for accurate assessment and monitoring of clinical progress.

PERIO-CHARTING

Systematically evaluating gum health by assessing inflammation, bleeding on probing, and pocket depths to identify and monitor periodontal conditions.

MICROBIAL ANALYSIS

Utilizing advanced microscopy techniques to directly observe bacterial activity within subgingival biofilms, particularly focusing on motile anaerobic bacteria and oral spirochetes, to gain insights into the microbial environment.

RADIOGRAPHIC IMAGING

Employing radiographs to assess the health of the alveolar bone, identify any bone loss, and evaluate the extent of damage caused by periodontal diseases.

PROFESSIONAL CARE

CLEAN
A thorough and professional supra- and subgingival cleaning is performed to effectively remove plaque and tartar deposits. This essential first step eliminates biofilm accumulation, disrupts pathogenic colonies, and lays the foundation for optimal gum health.

RINSE
Following cleaning, interdental and subgingival irrigation is carried out using a saline or herbal solution. This process helps reduce the bacterial load, restore a healthy microbial balance, and minimize inflammation, creating an ideal environment for tissue regeneration.

MASSAGE
After cleaning and rinsing, Turvera Gel is gently applied to the gum surface. A soft brush is then used to lightly massage the gum line and interdental spaces, enhancing circulation and promoting tissue vitality. Using a fine cannula, the gel is further delivered into deep periodontal pockets to support nutrient delivery and stimulate the natural healing of gum tissues.

PERSONAL CARE

CLEAN
Begin by gently brushing the teeth, gums, and tongue using a soft-bristled toothbrush without toothpaste. Pay special attention to all areas, especially along the gumline and between the teeth, to remove plaque, food debris, and bacterial deposits. Use light, controlled scrubbing motions combined with vertical strokes to dislodge plaque from the gumline and clean the interdental spaces. Avoid causing trauma to the soft tissues.

RINSE
After brushing, swish clean water vigorously around the mouth for approximately 30 seconds. This helps flush out loosened particles, refresh the oral environment, and lower the bacterial load, promoting a healthier microbial balance in the mouth.

MASSAGE
Apply a small amount of Turvera OraGum Gel directly to the gums and interdental spaces using a soft toothbrush, interdental brush, or clean fingertips. Gently massage the gums in a circular motion for 1–2 minutes. This process nourishes the gums with herbal ingredients, stimulates blood circulation, soothes inflammation, and supports the natural healing and regeneration of the gum tissues.

By combining scientific diagnostics, patient education, herbal-based formulations such as Turvera Gel, and non-surgical intervention at professional level, GHG Therapy™ offers a holistic and effective solution for reducing harmful oral bacteria and restoring gum health. This therapy not only targets the root cause of periodontal issues but also empowers individuals to maintain a balanced oral ecosystem for long-term well-being. With its natural, predictable, and patient-centric approach, GHG Therapy™ represents the future of gum health management.
